Detente 2.0 (An Update)

WNU Editor: A lot has happened since this post was put up last week .... Should The West Push A New Policy Of Detente With Russia? (August 4, 2016). To begin .... Jeffrey Taylor at the Atlantic put up a similar post post a few days later .... The Time Is Ripe for Détente, 2.0 (The Atlantic), and I have been receiving feedback from some WNU readers who are in the U.S. foreign policy establishment who have shifted their positions (in just one week) that maybe a different approach should be undertaken with  Russia to lessen tensions.

I personally hope this is the case .... a reset between the West and Russia is badly needed, because the alternative .... another Cold War .... would not only be incredibly destabilising to all of Europe, but it would also open the door to the nightmare scenario of a possible major war.

In closing .... special kudos to Gabriel Elefteriu for getting the conversation going. His post .... Détente 2.0: Playing the long game with a rearmed Russia .... is a must read.

Nice sentiment, not gonna happen.

Our leaders are functionally insane in regards to Russia.

Notice how Brezhnev is standing ramrod straight and Nixon is portrayed as stooped. This is media bias towards communism.

Yes in Sweden too.

Under a Trump Administration this can happen in a manner that preserves American intersts and dignity. The key question in this case will be how willing are the Russian leadership to make any compromises that may be necessary to defuse this situation.

Nixon is always drawn that way. Look as some of the historic photo's of him. His hunch was his trademark pose.

You also apparently know nothing about the virulent anti-communist history of Time Magazine and it's Owners.

"media bias towards Communism"

God Lord....

In more than forty years of living in a "western" county, I have NEVER seen or heard a thing that could be construed as media bias toward Communism. NEVER. Let alone from Time magazine.
